The Lich and the Dwarf
Oh, how long ago I began this piece. The concept came to me a few years ago and I purchased the 54mm figures from Andrea Miniatures shortly after. I painted the dwarf some and then put him down only to pick up the lich for a bit.
The Concept
I wanted the scene to show a fierce dwarf confronting a lich perched on top of a hill of skulls of its victims. The addition of the ghosts from the skeletons came late in the process after some feedback from Jim and Adam about spacing between the figures and a suggestion by Andy around a Games Workshop set to fill that need.
The Process
With the figures partially painted, I used Aves Apoxie Sculpt to fill in the base and create a small hill. The dwarf was pressed in while the sculpt was still soft as was the pin for the lich. Once that was cured I went in with a selection of humanoid skulls and bones (some from Games Workshop skull box and some purchased online)
These photos don't show the dusting I gave the path between the two figures, that will show in the final photos.

I then base coated the base in a brown and followed that with an off white paint on the bones and skulls.
Skipped a bit here so... The skulls were shaded with Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil then dry brushed with the same off white to pull out the high points. I then sat and glued down snowy grass tufts in random areas (It is early spring when this scene is happening). Then a snow medium was sprinkled over some glue I put down.
The lich was weathered further using rust from AK Interactive, Games Workshop technicals, and Scale 75 pigments. The 'ghosts' were added in between the two combatants. The nearer 'ghost' was trimmed off to appear as if it is just forming. The Lich gained glowing eyes to show his magical power.

Hey Eric, this is a pretty cool concept and you've done well in bringing it to fruition.
